portfolio
This portfolio covers both the visual and development aspects of the work we’ve created so far. Leafish has completed several professional sites and projects for local businesses and organisations, and other sites have been developed in our own time for friends and associates.
Details of other projects:
Jennie Joseph

A more personal site for one of our clients Jennie Joseph, who runs a multitude of maternal and midwifery-related groups, organisations and charities over in Orlando, Florida.
Jennie is responsible for a unique birthing centre The Birth Place, an on-line resource and forum Nubian Health Network, a non-profit organisation Commonsense Childbirth, development of The JJ Way™ MCH healthcare delivery model and so much more.
Content conversion from static site, Drupal set-up and theme. We also provide on-going hosting and support for Jennie’s sites.
“Because every woman deserves a healthy baby.”
Jennie Joseph
tasty threads

tasty threads is an online outlet for community-designed, eco-friendly t-shirts and clothing. tasty threads “host a continuous design contest whilst being as environmentally sustainable as possible.”
The winning designs are printed exclusively on 100% organic cotton t-shirts from American Apparel. As the community grows, tasty threads intend to expand to print designs on other eco-friendly fabrics, such as hemp, soy, and bamboo.
Members of the open community submit their designs to tasty threads, where site moderators publish the designs on the web site. The community then votes on the design, and tasty threads chooses which designs to print. Tasty threads sells the printed organic t-shirts and awards the artist cash for their winning design.
The tasty threads site is currently in testing - previews are coming soon!
Logo, layout and theme design; theme build based on Zen; Drupal consultation.
DT Publications

DT Publications are skilled technical publishers who specialise in technical authoring, desktop publishing, multimedia and computer-based training.
We provided a Drupal based site as a direct conversion from an older static site. A custom module was also provided to enable custom orders via a submission form on the site.
Conversion from static site, some theming and graphical work, replication of the ‘ASD Order Form’ as a custom Drupal module.
The Birth Place

While we have hosted The Birth Place for a few years now, the original site was a quick and dirty conversion from a static site, already complete and designed by another party, to Drupal 4.6.
As part of an agreement to support and continue hosting both The Birth Place and its sister site, Nubian Health Network, we have recently revamped the entire site - working in several new features based on Views, Nodequeue, as well as providing both public and private Patient and Staff only forums - and updated the site to Drupal 5.
The front page layout is slightly unusual in that it provides some immediate information to new visitors and potential clients for the clinic - welcome message, some information about the clinic and promotional box-outs for open visits. The latest news is presented as a list of short teasers underneath the main content area as a ‘Bulletin Board’.
The Birth Place is now a supported Leafish client, meaning new features are afoot for the site. Keep your eyes peeled!
New theme revamp in keeping with the organisation’s identity, Drupal setup and support, hosting and e-mail, custom user profiles for members of staff, views with custom theming and access control using Taxonomy Access.
“…as the Americans say: ‘you rock!’ Thanks for your speedy work.”

SmartSheet.com

Smartsheet.com is the corporate site and portal to Smartsheet: an “online task management hub that enables you to move projects along without the hassle of complex rules. Because it’s effortless to adopt, you succeed in providing clarity for all team members, every step of the way.”
This project was a collaboration between the guys at Smartsheet, Northlake Design and Advanced Web Design.
Site setup, administration, content management, custom code for Beta Community (private) pages.
Rivertown URC

Rivertown United Reformed Church is a modern, spiritual Christian church in Shotton, North Wales. As more and more members begin to communicate via e-mail and other electronic means, the idea of creating a website to facilitate communication (of church news and events to and between members) and promotion of the church becomes all the more appealing to the senior members and the Rivertown community alike.
The Rivertown site is based on a fairly full featured Drupal setup: categorised articles and news items, events and event calendar, sermons with audio versions, photo galleries and aggregated content for daily bible readings and reading plans.
Points of Interest
The Rivertown site makes extensive use of events and the events calendar, including repeating events. The church is used extensively by the community for activities other than those immediately involving the church, such as support groups, youth clubs and music groups/band practices.
Weekly Notices have been published every Sunday at the church for many years, given out to all members to communicate both regular weekly events and advanced notices: events taking place not in the current week, but are of sufficient importance to be noted in advance.
We created a custom module to provide equivalent functionality, building on the events and repeating events modules. The main Weekly Notices page is generated automatically by listing the events occurring within the current week. Additionally, events can be marked to be included in the ‘Advanced Notices’ appended to the Weekly Notices, even if they do not occur in the current week.
Drupal, custom theme in CSS, additional modules and custom code using PHP & MySQL
Nubian Health Network

Nubian Health Network is the source for all your women’s health information needs. Our mission is to provide you with accurate, pertinent and current health education, referrals and resources; help to reduce racial disparities in health care and to re-build positive community connections through sharing.
Points of interest
Primarily a resource site, Nubian Health Network has been set up to allow site moderators to create categorised links to useful sites and resources with a short brief or comment from the site authors for each.
The site is currently taking its first baby steps, with further work Jennie Joseph and ourselves hope to provide up-to-date health news, syndicated content and a community forum for people to post problems and be helped out with relevant links and resources.
Drupal, additional code and modules with PHP and MySQL, design of theme with PHPTemplate and CSS, imagery with Illustrator
Llay Miners Welfare

A site to advertise the facilities of Llay Miners Welfare, and to provide listings of local events and sports galas. Events listings and club information is available, as well as contact and booking forms.
The site has recently been revamped and updated to Drupal 5.
Drupal, custom design in CSS, additional PHP & MySQL work, design and logo in Adobe Photoshop.
paul.leafish.co.uk

Essentially a blog, set up during the revamp of our current Leafish site. We moved away from personal news, content and unsupported development and code snippets on the site, so some of my stuff has ended up here. Also posted is some information about my other projects and hobbies: Babylon Leaf, The Infinite Bacon Project and games.
Drupal, theme derived from Internet Jobs using PHPTemplate and CSS, additional modules with PHP/MySQL, design with Adobe Illustrator.
“Paul still spends ages tweaking this site.”
Paul Byrne, Leafish
Free2mail

Free2mail is a ‘hands on’ marketing company, providing pre-qualified leads and appointments to their clients using a combination of high quality telemarketing fused with appropriate technology across the Internet.
We built a corporate site to promote Free2mail’s e-marketing services.
Points of interest
Some tentative steps were made on this site into the world of AMFPHP - allowing Flash movies to send/receive data to/from PHP scripts. This enables a Flash movie to retrieve content from a CMS (Drupal again, in this case) via an AMFPHP gateway. The result: dynamic content pulled from a MySQL database in Flash.
The splash page on this site represents a step forward in the use of Flash splash pages: we can make them useful now, and not just fancy.
Drupal, additional code and modules with PHP and MySQL, design of theme with PHPTemplate and CSS, imagery with Illustrator.
Babylon Leaf

The first of (hopefully) many sites for local live bands in the North West. Babylon Leaf is a six-piece who have been playing together in various forms for nearly five years.
Points of interest
The site was designed to provide regular news and events listings, as well as downloads: song samples, images and artwork. The site is powered by the Drupal content management system (CMS), and so the band can easily access and update news and events themselves.
The site has extensive galleries, a message board and a downloads page with full-length tunage and Flash preview players.
Drupal CMS, extensive custom theme in PHP, design in Illustrator/Photoshop, some Flash elements
Wrexham Dragons

Wrexham Dragons is the website for the Wrexham AFC Official Supporters Association.
Points of interest
Our first site driven by Drupal, the site required a completely custom-built theme with Flash elements, and several special features such as the Hall of Fame areas.
Content is regularly added and updated online by the site administrator, Rich Owen.
Site driven by Drupal CMS, additional custom PHP/MySQL, design with Illustrator and some Flash.
Grasshopper Gardens

Grasshopper Gardens is a one-man, do-it-all gardening service run by Dave Byrne. A recent start-up, the website was put together in order to quickly and cheaply promote the business.
Grasshopper provide almost any gardening service you might require; from simple maintenance right up to hedgerow & tree lopping and ornamental landscaping.
Points of Interest
Whilst the current site is simple, a means of advertising and communicating, we plan on implementing a secure, customer-only area where clients can log in and request work or a quote, view new or archived invoices and keep in constant touch.
If the communication medium of e-mail and website prove popular with Grasshopper and its clients (as is already the case: Dave uses e-mail to discuss and confirm work with over 70% of his customers), this customer tool would be a great selling point for its services and, for that matter, any other start-ups.
Simple Drupal set-up, with a customised theme derived from Kubrick by Chrisada Sookdhis. Imagery with Photoshop, logo designed in Illustrator
leafish v2

Originally intended as a personal portfolio site, we soon realised both the name, logo and overall style could provide us with a strong brand for the company. The second iteration of leafish.co.uk was born.
Points of interest
This second iteration of the site provides details of our company as well as information on our hosting plans and design pricing. A community forum was implemented, providing both potential and existing customers with a place to voice their queries and suggestions, as well as giving the general public a platform for web-related chat and development discussion.
Please note the forums have been superceded now, and have been removed from this version of our site. The forums link will redirect to this site. The archived site solely exists for the purpose of this portfolio, and so hasn’t been updated since July 2004. Therefore, some of the information contained on the site may be outdated.
Static site with some PHP and MySQL, forums from Invision Board, design in Photoshop and Illustrator
Kosha

Kosha have been a well known band around North Wales for over five years, always getting a great response wherever they play. They have recently become kickin* yoshi and more recent information can be found on their (sigh) MySpace page.
Points of interest
This was the second site we produced for a local band, incorporating some dynamic features such as news feeds, an events calendar and a simple CMS back-end to allow members of the band to add their own content.
The tunes page contained small Flash preview players which play lower-quality samples of the songs available.
Archived site unavailable. Sorry!
Custom-built CMS with PHP and MySQL, design work in Illustrator, some small Flash elements.
Newi Student Magazine

An on-line version of a free magazine written for students at NEWI University in Wrexham. The bi-yearly publication has existed for a couple of years and the staff wished for both an on-line presence and e-mail facilities for their staff.
Points of interest
The site has many dynamic features and is powered by the combination of a MySQL database and our tailor-made Content Management System, AyB CMS. This system enables the editorial staff to log in to a secure area of the site and add edit or delete articles, editorials, news and events. This encouraged additional content and features exclusive website-only articles written between issues.
Note: this site was taken down in March 2005 due to lack of support on the editorial team. Thanks to Paula for hosting with us and to all the editorial team for the work they put in content-wise.
Custom built CMS using PHP, MySQL and Smarty, some work in Photoshop
